Over 40 years ago research studies began demonstrating the importance of information obtained from surveys and opinion polls in making informed decisions. Organization & Human Development (OHD) has been involved in this journey. Today, in a rapidly changing world, the importance of valid, targeted information in a myriad of situations and disciplines has exploded and is more important than ever. Intuitive decision making (gut level) is helpful, but it doesn’t respond to today’s needs with enough insight, detail, depth, timeliness and accuracy to assure organization or individual success. What is needed is timely data that we can drill to mine for root causes. Then we are able to visualize, predict and act to shape organizational and individual futures. OHD has strongly integrated opinion research and surveys into the mainstream of organization and human development. The old saying, “None of us are as smart as all of us”, should be accepted thinking for each of us. Yet beyond this, we also must be willing and eager to ask a second question, “And what do others think?”. When we are ready to ask ‘And what do others think’, the next challenge should be how do I most effectively determine what others think? This leads us back to opinion research, surveys and polls as being the effective, efficient way to answer the question, “And what do others think?”. The philosophy and question above stress the importance of conducting essential organization or individual research. If not, another thought maybe helpful in moving the arrogant and obstructive into a more open, accepting position. And, that is stating, “It may be that you are right”. It is difficult to take this third step, but it may be necessary to achieve the best for the organization or the individual. If you have confidence in your decisions and strategy, leverage the opportunity support it with survey or opinion research data. Based on this thinking (i.e. “None of us are as smart as all of us”, “And what do others think” and “It may be that you are right”), other business and ethical values coupled with the effectiveness of opinion polls and surveys, OHD has been highly successful working with a broad range of organizations as they strive for excellence. OHD has also helped all levels of employees, from executive to individual contributor with their personal development and growth. Our services are always tailored to what is needed by the customer. Most of our customers have some experience with opinion research and surveys and should be involved in the process. Additionally, as organizations downsize and outsource, time becomes a major issue. Some customers have little time to devote to opinion research or surveys, but they are fully committed to the process and realize the importance of the outcome on organization and individual contributor success. In this event, OHD competently carries the load as a trusted and valued partner. Cost is often a critical issue in the decision to do opinion research. Our fees are considerably lower than large, national organizations.
